As much as Austin is a foodie city and the “Live Music Capital of the World”, there’s also a bustling trend toward film. Actually, Austin has several well-known film festivals every year, including SXSW Film, Fantastic Fest, and the Austin Film Festival.

At the heart of this movement is the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. Started in 1997, the Alamo Drafthouse has become the cinema and film icon in the city. What started, as a second-run theater in Austin’s warehouse district soon became a city-centric, trend-setting phenomenon.

The Alamo Drafthouse offers movies with dinner service and their brand continues to be an ambassador for film culture as seen by their regular events, devotion to underground and indie films, and their relentless respect for everything that makes the movie-going experience special.

The Alamo Drafthouse Village, one of four locations in Austin opened in 2001 and sports 4 screens different screens to watch the latest action flicks, meditative dramas, and the cutest indie films available in theatres. The location near the Northwest Hills neighborhood was the first Alamo Drafthouse theatre to specialize in first run movies, and now the rest have followed suit. Essentially, if it’s not at the Alamo Drafthouse, it’s not worth seeing.
